On February 1, US President Trump signed an executive order to impose a 10% tariff on goods imported from China. This latest US trade protection measure has been widely opposed in the international community and in the United States.
The White House said on the same day that the United States would impose a 10% tariff on all goods imported from China on top of existing tariffs. Trump said this was consistent with the "protectionist measures" he supported.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously stated that China has stated its position many times and has always believed that there are no winners in trade wars and tariff wars. China has always firmly upheld its national interests. A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce also previously stated that China's position on tariffs is consistent. Tariff measures are not beneficial to both China and the United States, nor to the entire world.
According to the executive order, the United States will also impose a 25% tariff on goods imported from Mexico and Canada, including a 10% tariff on Canadian energy products.
